Preparing for a post-secondary education (college or university) starts well before one’s high school senior year. From the freshman year of high school onward, there are many actions that may be taken to best prepare.

Review the timeline below for suggestions in building a stronger foundation during the high school years to build an impactful college application. There are many ways to excel in high school, and early, active planning is the first step.

  • Investigate college requirements and plan accordingly. Determine the high school courses are required to be completed in order to be deemed eligible for that institution’s admissions.
  • Take challenging classes.
  • Meet with your counselor early in your freshman year to discuss your high school and potential college goals.
