Summer School Information and Policies Related to Taking Courses Outside CHS - 2010

Catholic High School
Summer School Information and Policies 2010

All students who received an academic or attendance failure will be contacted and summer school mailings will be sent after grades are finalized with details about summer school and forms required to register. Summer school locally starts June 14.   If registered for FLVS and awaiting counselor approval, please e-mail mkyte@pensacolachs.org.

CHS students seeking summer school options should please note the following:

*Students must meet program guidelines to register for Community Schools programs, which include: The student must be 16 years old (15 for Drivers Ed:  Please see Remediation schedule and contact number below), provide proof of residency, have parental permission and signature, and present a completed CHS co-enrollment form in order to attend Community School or PJC.  Students may obtain this Co-Enrollment Form from Guidance.  Please contact Community School site administrators for requirements and registration details.

*Religion Summer School at Catholic High: Students with an attendance or academic failure of a religion course must remediate that failure by attending summer school at Catholic High School. A $100 fee ($175 for two semesters) payable to Catholic High School is due on the first day of classes.

*An option for remediation is online sources, which may be available year round. Some of these are private and, therefore, require a fee per course.   Please contact the CHS Guidance Office before enrolling.

Policies Related to Courses Outside CHS:
*Catholic High policy allows students earning a D or F to remediate that class in the summer. The summer school grade will be averaged with the grade received at CHS.

*Students may not take a class required for graduation in summer school as a first attempt and will not progress in a sequence, such as math or language, based on completion of a class first taken in summer school.  Students may take a first attempt class in summer school as a supplement to their transcript.   However their grade will not be factored into the CHS GPA and does not count toward graduation requirements.

*A SPECIAL CAUTION to students who receive a McKay Scholarship to attend CHS.  Attending summer school at a community school or a public school may invalidate the McKay Scholarship.    If a McKay student is required to remediate a CHS failure, they may need to explore alternatives such as private online education.  Please contact the McKay program with any questions.

*An option for remediation is online sources, which may be available year round. Some of these are private and, therefore, require a fee per course.   The Florida Virtual School is literally an online Florida public high school and, therefore, its courses are free of charge to Florida residents.    If you are interested in pursuing any of these online alternative sources, it is recommended that you contact the CHS Guidance Office before enrolling to ensure that you have selected an acceptable course and completed the required paperwork to provide for the transfer of credits to Catholic High upon completion.
